SILCHAR: Members of the Tapang BJP block mandal committee have demanded inclusion of BJP leader Kaushik Rai, who won the 2021 assembly election from Lakhipur seat, in the Assam cabinet.
The BJP won four seats in Cachar district in the assembly election. One of them was Lakhipur, which had been a stronghold of the Congress for decades. Rai, who was fielded by the BJP in that “highly-unsafe” seat, broke the jinx successfully and defeated Congress’ Mukesh Pandey by a huge margin of 12,700 votes.
Interacting with reporters, Tapang BJP block mandal committee including its president (in-charge) Aurobindo Deb, general secretary Sanjit Deb, Naren Das, Hirendra Das, Rabi Narayan Das, Santosh Das, Ranju Das, Samarendra Das and Shanilal Das among others said Rai, who has been associated with the BJP for many years, is a dynamic and experienced politician and he should be inducted in the cabinet for the growth of Barak Valley. The valley, which has remained underdeveloped for decades, will witness immense progress and prosperity if Rai is made a minister, they said.
Besides the growth of Barak Valley, the BJP’s base in this part of the state will become stronger if Rai is included in the cabinet, the members said. They sought the intervention of BJP’s chief strategist in the Northeast Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Ranjeet Dass in this regard.
