Silchar Unit ABVP, protested in GC College Campus to return the Examination Fee of the Exam not taken.

Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) was supposed to conduct the HS First Year Final Exam, 2020 as every year in the month of April. But due to the pandemic situation that took place followed by nationwide lockdown, the examination was called off and all students were promoted to HS 2nd Year without any examination. However, the Colleges had already taken the examination fees of Rs. 1000/- from the students back in the December, 2019. Hence, in this context the GC College Unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) raised a demand to the authority to return back the Exam Fees of HS 1st year Final exam that was already paid to the College.

In connection to that, the ABVP Unit members of GC College, Silchar unit submitted a memorandum to the Principal on 9 November. ABVP along with the students demanded that “the fees be refunded to the students within a week or else we will launch a vigorous agitation.” Although, the college authority did not pay any attention to the demand of ABVP within the given time, so on Wednesday- 18th November they raised a strong protest inside the campus of the college. The ABVP unit of GC College, Silchar locked the Office of the Principal for 2 long hours and sat for demonstration raising slogans in support of their demand.

After hours, Dr. Bivash Deb, Principal of G.C. College came out with a notice where he wrote, “On the basis of the memorandum submitted by the students, it is for the general information to the HS 1st Year students that the matter of refunding the HS 1st Year Examination fees to the concerned students shall be finalised announced on 1 December, 2020.” “ABVP has raised a legitimate demand and we are hopeful that the GC College authority will definitely accept our demand and refund the Examination fees to the students of HS. This is a victory of student power,” says the In-charge of ABVP Silchar Unit, Rohit Chanda.
