Press Day has been celebrated by the three districts maintaining all the covid protocols. Journalism, the third pillar of democracy, plays a major role in shaping public opinions. The basis of a country’s politics basically stands on this. Karimganj has seen several dignitaries holding the event. In hailakandi, the function was held at the office of DIPRO. Deputy Commissioner, Megh Nidhi Dahal, the chief guest said that this is an occasion to introspect how much has been done and how much more has to be done. Media houses, according to him, shouldn’t be concentrating themselves on gaining TRP numbers. They should rather focus on delivering authentic information.
Habibur Rahman, editor of Nababarta Prasanga, hailed the media for performing a brave job during the pandemic outbreak. He also remembered those journalists who have given up their lives to the virus with utmost grief and respect. Prof. Sudip Choudhury from Assam University urged the government to extend help to those media persons who are in need in connection to the pandemic crisis. Keerthi Jalli, DC of Cachar also took part in the celebration in Cachar district maintaining the protocols. A certificate was handed over to the wife of journalist Asim Dutta who passed away in the covid fight. A two minutes’ silence was also observed on his memory. DC, DIG and SP felicitated the brave warriors of media house with uttorio. Thus, the entire valley has observed the day and celebrated the hard work of journalists and everyone associated with press.
