With the new SOP released by the DC of Cachar Keerthi Jalli, temporary pandals are banned this time for Durga Puja, 2020. Though Health Minister had already permitted the temporary pandals, the DC had made a crossover of a contrasting guideline regarding the pandals in her SOP.
In this context, the national president of Mahila Congress and former member of the parliament, Sushmita Dev, questioned Jalli’s way of dealing with the Durga Puja SOP. Dev questioned, “When the Department of Health has no objection with temporary pandals, Karimganj and Hailakandi have no problem with pandals, why is she bringing out a separate SOP?”
Calling everything moving out haphazardly, Dev further questioned the DC’s knowledge about the local culture and infrastructure mentioning how, only few Puja Committees in Cachar has parmanent infrastructure including committees which are 100 years old.
She also informed that she has received an invitation from the DC’s office for Puja. Calling everything a mockery, she said, “The DC is herself constructing a temporary pandal where the administration will conduct the Puja. On one side, she’s banning temporary pandals in Cachar, on the other hand, she herself is violating her own SOP.”
